The second scheduled concert for the 2022 Blue Hill Concert Association season features the Ariel Quartet, composed of four string musicians who met as teenagers in Israel, now still young, even after playing together for twenty years. They came to the United States earning bachelors and masters degrees from the New England Conservatory and currently serve as faculty/artists-in-residence at the University of Cincinnati. The quartet has a particular fondness for the Beethoven string quartets, having performed the entire cycle five times, including a complete performance before any of them had reached the age of thirty. Leah Swann Hollingsworth wrote in “The Strad” that their performance of a Hadyn quartet showed “vitality, clarity of line, depth of sound and an impeccable sense of direction.”
You may listen to the Ariel Quartet in the two videos linked below: the first, a performance of the first movement of a Brahms quartet in an unusual location, and the second, a full performance of one of the Beethoven quartets. We invite you to come hear the quartet play in person at the Blue Hill Congregational Church at 3:00 pm on February 13, 2022!
