Formed at the Juilliard School, the Lysander Trio has performed together for a little more than ten years. The STRAD says the trio — Itamar Zorman, violin; Michael Katz, cello; and Liza Stepanova, piano — play with sensitivity, panache and emotional depth, “passionate playing, articulate and imaginative ideas, and wide palette of colours.” This spring they begin a series of concerts in collaboration with Argentinian composer and bandoneonist JP Jofre, exploring the evolution of tango.
The Lysander Trio will perform at the Blue Hill Congregational Church on February 18 at 3:00 pm. You may sample their playing by clicking on the video links below: (1) a performance of Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody,” and (2) the haunting and beautiful “The Black Mirror,” a contemporary piece composed for the Lysander Trio by Jakub Ciupinski, set to video by filmmaker Sara Pettinella.
